'Singing cheerful songs to someone with a heavy heart
is like taking someone's coat in cold weather.' Proverbs 25:20
Teaching English in Japan sounds exotic, doesn't it? But the reality often is: you take a train so crowded you can barely stand let alone sit, to a kindergarden where dozens of ankle-biters attempt to climb all over you while you sing along to a tape of 'If you're happy and you know it clap your hands...' sung by people so manically happy you feel their mood has to be chemically enhanced. If you mildly slap a kid for shouting in your ear at the top of his voice you will henceforth be considered some kind of Nazi war criminal.
It's no wonder three years is the absolute maximum for most people.
